It’s hard to believe that ‘Purple’ is just the third single from Unusual Demont. He wastes no time introducing his ethereal, trippy and atmospheric side: winding guitar notes, late-on-the-beat drums and a relaxed vocal delivery. “The song itself is about being with someone and knowing they’re only sticking around to avoid hurting you,” he explains. “It’s a bittersweet experience cause even though it hurts, you still have them around. But in the same way, letting them go is just as bittersweet.” Unusual Demont wears his eclectic influences on his sleeve, allowing internet culture to combine with the likes of Frank Ocean and his grandfather’s legendary drumming career alongside Curtis Mayfield. -Dan Peeke
